ACL Tear

If you tear or sprain the anterior cruciate ligament, this type of knee injury is commonly referred to as an ACL injury. The ACL is one of the most important ligaments of the knee. ACL injuries are mostly associated with athletes who compete in sports such as soccer and long jump, due to the involvement of sudden stops.

However, anyone can suffer ACL injuries, so it is important to seek an assessment from Silicon Valley Orthopaedics if you suffer related symptoms.

You may experience symptoms including:

  • An audible “pop” sensation in the knee
  • Significant pain that prevents further participation in activity
  • Rapid swelling around the knee
  • Limited mobility
  • Instability when bearing weight

These symptoms do not necessarily indicate an ACL injury, but they may indicate another type of injury or illness. Dr. Nic Gay or Dr. Masi Reynolds will provide a comprehensive examination to determine whether you have suffered an ACL injury at Silicon Valley Orthopaedics.

Treatment for ACL Injuries

Although there is always a risk of developing osteoarthritis of the knee after an ACL injury, effective treatment may greatly reduce the risk. There are a number of nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatment options for ACL injuries. Dr. Nic Gay and Dr. Masi Reynolds understand that your lifestyle is important to you. All treatment plans at Silicon Valley Orthopaedics are personalized to each patient’s individual needs.

At Silicon Valley Orthopaedics, we are committed to preserving the knee joint after an injury. In many cases of an ACL injury, conservative treatment is enough to facilitate recovery.
