Jumper’s Knee

Jumper’s knee is a condition that results in the inflammation of the patellar tendon. It is for this reason that you may have heard the condition referred to as patellar tendonitis. The affected tendon connects the kneecap to the shin bone. When you are suffering from jumper’s knee, the tendon is weaker and susceptible to further injuries, such as tears.

Treatment from Silicon Valley Orthopaedics for jumper’s knee includes halting any activity that may prevent the knee injury from healing. Further treatment options like NSAIDs, elevation, rest, stretching exercises and ice are often recommended to aid in recovery from jumper’s knee.

You may experience a number of symptoms that indicate jumper’s knee, including:

  • Tenderness and pain around the tendon
  • Inflammation
  • Increased pain during sporting activities
  • Pain when walking
  • Pain when extending the leg at the knee
  • Tenderness beneath the kneecap at the lower end

Dr. Nic Gay and Dr. Masi Reynolds use a comprehensive examination process to diagnose jumper’s knee. Your medical history and lifestyle are taken into account in combination with a physical exam and x-ray results.
